Today, April, 19, the students will be taking a trip to the Brandenburg Gate. The students will have a chance to walk around and see the amazing structure. Before they actually go to the Gate, the students will research the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall. They can look at pictures, and just try to find as much information as they can using the Internet. After they have done some research, they will definitely have questions to ask. When we arrive At the Brandenburg Gate I will ask the students to share any information they found that they thought was interesting. They may also ask any questions they might have about the Gate itself or the Wall. The students will sort of work together to teach each other why the Gate and Wall were built, and why the Wall was torn down. After they have a chance to ask any questions and look around as much as they want, they will be asked to write in their journals about what they saw today. They can write about the way the felt when they were there, how they feel about the city being split in two, or just any thoughts they have about the Brandenburg Gate. You can go to this website to read about the Brandenburg Gate to see what your child will be learning about.
